Valentine’s Day has a special meaning for me. It never used to, actually I always hated the Hallmark-created ‘holiday’.
But then that all changed.
Six years ago from practically the moment I am writing this (on 2/8), I met my future husband at a breakfast restaurant. He had found me on an online dating site and we had spoken on the phone for the first time the day before, for three hours! I suggested that we meet the next morning over breakfast. It was the first time that I’d ever been on a breakfast date before. The date was nice and we decided to go out again, and it happened to be on Valentine’s Day.
The date was very romantic, and he gave me flowers with a hand written card.
A year later from that day, we were on our honeymoon in Mexico on a cruise, having a wonderful dinner on the ship.
As they say, the rest is history!
So now, since our wedding anniversary is on 2/12, we celebrate Valentine’s Day. My husband calls the week starting February 8th, ‘the week of love’.
I should mention, we don’t buy a lot of stuff normally. Maybe a card, or some chocolate. A flower or two. Or even nothing! We go out to dinner, or more likely, we make dinner at home. We stay home (with the kids mind you), make googly eyes at each other, talk in whispers, that kind of thing.
So I thought I’d share what I’m going to make for Valentine’s weekend this year. And of course, it’s in the Nourishing Traditions style. Next week, I will report back the success on each of these recipes. And since my husband has a sweet tooth, I chose two desserts from the cookbook that I thought he would like the most.
Now I don’t always prepare such an elaborate meal, but since this year I’m doing NT and have a leg of lamb in the freezer, why not?
Main Course:
Leg of Lamb with roasted potatoes, onions, and pan sauce
Side dish:
Green beans with bacon and caramelized onions
Desserts:
Vanilla Bavarian Cream with Blackberry Sauce
Almond Shortcake topped with Lemon Mousse
