Special Diet?

Many of us (or members of our families) have health or other issues that restrict our diets somewhat. This section will make it easier for you to find recipes compatible with many different types of diets.

I have done a tremendous amount of research in order to modify and categorize Nourishing Traditions recipes on this site, but I am still learning. If you see something in the incorrect category please drop me a quick note at kim@thenourishingcook.com or just place a comment on this page. Thank you!

Isn’t the paleo diet dairy-free?

yes, thank you! I took out the herbed cream cheese recipe. The others can be modified to paleo, but if you see anything else let me know, thank you!

Oh, I just noticed, my favorite one is missing from the SCD category: The Broiled Eggplant Slices on page 384. Have you made that one yet?

for my son the problem is eggs. we just bought an icecream maker, all of its recipes use milk and cream and sugar (way too sweet so i use rapadura and only in a quarter the quantity given) but no eggs… does anyone know why sally’s recipes use eggs?

Hi Sarah.. I believe this is because these are ‘raw’ cream and egg recipes. The eggs are needed for thickening and to hold things together. The ice cream recipes that I’ve seen without eggs are cooked and then cooled prior to pouring into the ice cream maker.

First off thank you so much for your site. Love what you are doing. We purchased the Nourishing Traditions cook book a while back and are slowly moving in that direction. :)
Thanks for taking the time to separate out specific diets. Wouldn’t all the recipes under the Paleo diet also be under gluten-free? I find there are many under Paleo that aren’t under gluten-free. For example the no-tomato spaghetti sauce or the Sunday Dinner: chicken dinner recipe. Thanks!

I have 2 tiny girls 18 mo and 3 yrs that have mild egg/dairy allergies (eczema). I have always given them soy milk, but am concerned after reading the “soy myths” on your website. What would you suggest as an alternative milk for them that would provide enough fat/calcium/vitamin D? Or would you suggest something in place of milk? … that would hopefully not cost an enormous amount of $? Would goat’s milk be a good alternative?

Hi,
I’m looking for Gluten Free, Yeast Free, Corn Free, Nightshade Free Bread. Is there any hope for sandwiches beyond quick breads?
Thanks,
Cg
